Samantha Daniel, a senior from Albertville, AL, is majoring in History and minoring in Spanish. She is also involved with the Marching Southerners.

Why did you decide to attend JSU?

I came to JSU because I wanted to be part of the Marching Southerners Color Guard.

What are some of your hobbies? 

My hobbies include: participating in Color Guard, reading, and watching Marvel movies.

What is your favorite thing to eat on/off campus? 

My favorite place on campus to eat is WOW, and off campus is Baja and Jack’s.

Why did you choose your major/minor? 

I chose to major in history because I’ve always been fascinated with ancient civilizations. I like learning about where we came from and how we have moved forward or backwards throughout history. I chose to minor in Spanish because I’ve always been surrounded by Spanish speakers, and I wanted to understand the language and be able to communicate with them.

What are your post-grad plans? 

When I graduate, I plan on coming back to JSU and participating in the Fifth Year program. But the rest is really just up in the air.

What has been the most impactful experience you’ve had as a college student? 

The biggest impact I’ve had at JSU would be the chance to grow as a person on my own. At JSU I really got the chance to branch out and grow. The people I surrounded myself with, the SCG especially, really helped me get out of my comfort zone, and allowed me to make friends and be the person I want to be.

What historical era interests you the most? 

Ancient civilizations interest me the most because of their rituals, polytheistic views, and advancements.

Are you involved in any clubs/organizations?

I am a member of the Marching Southerners Color Guard.

What has been your favorite course so far?

My favorite classes are my history classes, but Black America and Social Activism/Counter Culture are my most recent favorites.
