Right around the time of Valentine’s Day, JSU alumni, faculty, staff, and students as well as the community, will be invited to watch the Holiday Inn musical put on by JSU faculty and students. Based on the classic film, this production features many of Irving Berlin’s best hits, including “Blue Skies,” “Easter Parade,” “Steppin’ Out With My Baby,” “Heat Wave,” “White Christmas,” “Cheek to Cheek,” and many more! The film version premiered on August 4, 1942, starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, but the new stage adaptation opened on Broadway in 2016. Our production is sure to be filled with Broadway dance numbers, comedy, sincerity, and fun! The students requested a musical that has tap, and this show definitely has that.
“Most people immediately connect this classic story to Christmas, but the funny thing is that it’s every holiday, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, all rolled into one toe-tapping musical. Since it’s also a love story, we thought it fitting to present it during February, just in time for Valentine’s Day. It’s truly a year-round romance.” – Production Manager Emily Duncan
Holiday Inn tells the story of Jim, who leaves the bright lights of show business to buy a farm in Connecticut. Jim meets Linda, a local schoolteacher with talent to boot, and it wouldn’t be life in a musical without lots of song and dance. The decision comes to transform the farm into an inn open on the holidays, featuring dazzling performances to celebrate each. It also wouldn’t be a story without a little conflict, when Jim’s former costar and best friend Ted tries to whisk Linda to Hollywood. What happens next? You’ll have to attend to see the outcome, February 16-18 and 23-25 at Mason Hall’s Recital Hall.
