Madison Cagle, a junior art major with a concentration in graphic design, serves as an ambassador for the College of Arts and Humanities.

Tell us about your experience as a CAH ambassador. How has it benefited you?

I have been an Ambassador for the College of Arts and Humanities since fall of 2021. My experience as a CAH Ambassador has benefited me in multiple ways. It has not only given me the pleasure of introducing incoming students to the Art & Design Department, but it has also allowed me to build stronger connections with Art & Design Department faculty members. Since becoming a CAH Ambassador, I have also grown tremendously in my confidence, which will be a significant advantage once I enter the professional field.

When did you know that JSU was the right school for you?

I first knew that JSU was the right school for me when I felt cared for at JSU’s table at a college fair.

What are some benefits of your major?

A few of the benefits of my major include an amazing community of artists to work alongside and supportive professors to guide art students throughout college.

What is your favorite thing about JSU?

My favorite thing about JSU is the people I’ve come to know through the school.

What clubs/organizations are you involved in?

I am the Media Director for EngageJSU, and I’m also a Resident Assistant for Logan Hall.

What is one way that you have grown during your time at JSU?

JSU has led me to grow in confidence during my time here. It’s amazing to look back and see how far I’ve come!

What is your favorite course that you have taken?

It is difficult to choose a favorite course that I have taken, but if I absolutely had to pick, my favorite course would be Artists’ Books, which is a bookmaking class offered through the Art & Design Department.

Any recent accomplishments?

My most recent accomplishment within my field was that one of my projects was selected to be presented at the 2022 Southern Regional Honors Conference. The Honors Conference was a wonderful experience for me to be able to present my work.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

After I graduate from JSU, I hope to pursue a master’s degree so that I will be qualified to teach art on the college level. I would also love to be a designer for a non-profit or ministry, or I would love to be a children’s book illustrator.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I have a pet rabbit named after Bob Ross.

What advice do you have for first-year students?

I would advise first-year students to stay after class to ask professors questions. There is so much more to learn from professors than just class material, especially if the professor has experience in your chosen field. It also helps to build connections in your department.
