Lauren Haygood, a vocal music education major from Blountsville, serves as an ambassador for the College of Arts and Humanities.

Tell us about your experience as an ambassador. How has it benefited you?

Being an ambassador has been a great experience with learning to talk to new people! Sometimes it can be scary to speak to unfamiliar people, but it has been interesting to find that we all have more in common than we realize. I think that this will help me greatly with my people skills and confidence going forward!

When did you know that JSU was the right school for you?

I came to support one of my friends in the Marching Southerners and remember thinking that they were really cool and that I wanted to be like them one day.

What are some benefits of your major?

We get to travel to really cool places and meet people in our field through professional development events.

What is your favorite thing about JSU?

Watching the Marching Southerners perform.

What clubs/organizations are you involved in?

Chamber Singers, A Capella Choir, Jacksonville Opera Theatre, EngageJSU, and Marching Southerners (Alumni)

What is one way that you have grown during your time at JSU?

I’ve learned that it is ok to ask for help when you need it. Sometimes we try to be completely self-sufficient because we don’t want to burden others with our needs. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be independent, but we weren’t designed to endure life alone.

What is your favorite course that you have taken?

Advanced Technology in Music 2 with Dr. Woodward was my favorite course. It was not a required class for my major, but the hands-on experience with sound production and manipulation was fascinating to me.

Any recent accomplishments?

My Junior Voice Recital is December 1st at 7:30 in Mason Hall!

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

I will most likely continue working at Barnes and Noble for my first year as I look at music career opportunities and locations.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I was a member of the performing choirs at the World Games 2022!

What advice do you have for first-year students?

Parking on campus can be less than ideal sometimes. If you live on campus, I’d recommend walking as much as possible to save yourself the hassle.
