Sean Godfrey, a junior from Montgomery, is majoring in Graphic Design. Godfrey recently had his oil painting Absence accepted to the 49^th Annual Juried Student Show.

When did you know that JSU was the right school for you?

I knew JSU was the right school when I saw how intuitive the campus’ Art & Design Department was compared to other public schools in the South.

What are some benefits of your major?

JSU’s BFA program benefits me by giving me opportunities to learn and cover many bases in the field of art. Even though my intention is to learn more about graphic design, I’ve also learned a lot about different mediums of painting, drawing, and even methods like screen-printing and printmaking.

What is your favorite thing about JSU?

I love the social environment at JSU. There’s never a day where I don’t meet someone new or run into someone friendly, whether they’re part of the student body or staff.

JSU ISO, JSU Spanish Club, JSU Kappa Pi Honors Art Society, JSU Anime Club, JSU Photo Club, JSU NAACP, JSU International House Program

What is one way that you have grown during your time at JSU?

A way I’ve grown at JSU is learning to interact in an area that blends so many cultures together.

What is your favorite course that you have taken?

My favorite courses are probably my studio illustration, drawing, and painting classes.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?

I plan on attending law school, whilst using my degree to get a job in graphic design to pay my way through the law school I end up going to.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I enjoy roller skating.

What advice do you have for first-year students?

Don’t slack and get behind on your work! It’s hard and stressful to catch back up after you lag behind.
