JSU will be hosting many events this year to celebrate Women’s History Month this March, including an essay contest and an arts show.
This semester, the Women’s History Month Committee will conduct an essay contest among JSU college students, with the winners receiving monetary awards and recognition at an Awards Ceremony. This year’s prompt is:
What does the term “feminism” mean? How do you understand its goals and strategies? Do you consider yourself to be a feminist? Why or why not? How has feminism changed our society?
The contest is open to JSU students of all genders and views. Genuine engagement with the essay question is encouraged above all. For the style requirements, deadline, and the submission procedure, please contact: Dr. Jennifer L. Gross (jgross@jsu.edu) and/or Dr. Yuliya Minets (yminets@jsu.edu). The committee encourages faculty to announce this opportunity to students and, if it works for the class, to award extra credit for submitting an entry. According to Minets and Gross, “strong support from faculty is instrumental in the success of this event.”
The Women’s History Month events also include an arts show, and JSU students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to submit their creations for inclusion:
