Why did you decide to attend JSU?
For me, attending JSU was an easy decision. Having grown up in Jacksonville, I always knew JSU was an option. But, as the time to begin college drew closer, I found comfort in Jacksonville being my home and knew that JSU would provide a sound learning environment in which I could grow and prosper.
Why did you choose your major?
I did not come to college anticipating studying history. Coincidentally, I took a few history classes and fell in love with the subject. History teaches that individuals with courage and persistence have and continue to propel our world forward. It allows us to learn from the mistakes of the past and makes us better and more informed citizens.
In your opinion, what is the coolest thing about the History and Foreign Languages Department?
I think one of the coolest things about the History and Foreign Languages Department is the diversity of courses available. There truly is a course or specific subject that is guaranteed to captivate any of our students.
What do you look forward to as a College of Arts and Humanities (CAH) Ambassador?
I look forward to helping prospective and incoming JSU students find their path and follow their passions in the College of Arts and Humanities.
What clubs/organizations are you involved in?
I am a member of Turning Point USA, PragerForce, Phi Alpha Theta, and Psi Chi.
What is your favorite thing to eat and/or drink on/off campus?
Honestly, my favorite thing to eat in Jacksonville is a grilled cheese from Struts.
Where is your favorite place to hang out on campus?
I love tailgates at Dillon Field and gamedays at Paul Snow.
Who is your favorite historical figure?
James Madison
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy writing, listening to podcasts, going to concerts, and playing with my two dogs.
What are your post-grad plans?
I plan to obtain a Juris Doctor and then return to Jacksonville to practice law.
What advice would you give a student who is new to JSU?
The best advice I can give is to enjoy every moment because I’ve learned that four years go by a lot quicker than you think. Don’t be afraid to try new things, meet new people, and join organizations. Prioritize your education and put your best foot forward, but allow yourself to have a little fun, too.
What course would you recommend to a freshman at JSU?
The courses that I found most beneficial my freshman year were the ones that taught me how to take effective notes, think critically, and develop good study habits. From experience, I can recommend Dr. Cook’s Western Civilization class in this regard. Aside from this, I recommend students take classes that they enjoy, when possible. Usually, the subjects and topics we most enjoy are the ones we thrive in, so embrace that.
