We are happy to highlight Jherica Kirkland, a senior member of the JSU Color Guard, who was nominated to be a Top 10 Candidate for the 2021 Homecoming Court. Kirkland is an example of how the Marching Southerners is a diverse organization because her major is not music. In fact, many Southerners have majors outside of the Music Department.
Kirkland is part of the nursing program at JSU. She has been “involved in Freshman Forum, Lambda Sigma National Honor Society, JSU Ambassadors, Marching Southerners Color Guard, STU 101 peer mentors, and the Gamecock Guide. Kirkland has also achieved several awards, such as the 212-degree Ambassador, Most Relatable, and Ms. Community Service.”*
Kirkland’s career path and involvement and election to the Top 10 of the 2021 Homecoming Court are exemplary of the diversity within the Marching Southerners, whose members’ activities and academics frequently go beyond music at JSU.
