Join us for the launch of the latest issue of JSU’s literary arts journal, Something Else! On Wednesday, October 13th, the Department of English will host a reading at the Round House at 6PM. This event will celebrate the first publication and printed issue of Something Else since the passing of the previous faculty advisor, Ms. Sarah Moersc, to whom it is dedicated.
The following students are slated to read from their works published in
the journal:
Seth Rhoades
Rebecca Weaver
Alaxander Golden
Laura Cartee
Kelli Doss
Timothy Curvin
Samantha Tolleson
Tristn Lambright
Something Else is connected to the Writers’ Club at JSU. As the journal and club’s faculty advisor, Dr. Kimberly Southwick-Thompson, explained, “Writers’ Club members apply to join the Something Else editorial board; Readers vet submissions during the open submissions period, and Editors work closely with the Club on other aspects of the journal, such as promoting the release of the journal.”
Those interested in getting their work published in Something Else should email their submissions to SomethingElse@jsu.edu. The submission guidelines will be posted on the Writer’s Club’s social media (see below) on October 15, when the journal begins accepting poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. All JSU students – undergraduate and graduate – are able to apply. Any questions regarding submission should be emailed to SomethingElse@jsu.edu or Dr. Southwick-Thompson at ksthompson@jsu.edu.
Students who wish to be involved in the editorial process of Something Else must first be part of Writers’ Club and attend at least two meetings a semester. All students can be Writers’ Club members and readers for the journal; meetings are held weekly, on Thursdays, from 4 – 6 PM in Martin Hall, Room 319.
