The College of Arts & Humanities (CAH) is excited to welcome a new professional staff member: Mr. Carlos Acosta is the new Career Development Coordinator for CAH. In this position, Acosta acts as a career coach for all students within the CAH by helping students build resumes and write cover letters. His work also includes “conducting mock interviews and planning and implementing programs [such as] career fairs, on-campus recruitment, presentations to classes, and other events.” Acosta explains, “Our goal is to make sure that students are prepared for the job market upon graduation. We also facilitate communication with companies and other organizations to help build the bridge between students and employers.” For CAH, Acosta has been working on information about internships and building relationships with more non-profits and businesses.
Acosta and his services can be utilized by students as soon as their freshman year on campus. Acosta explains that building and planning one’s career path as soon as possible can prevent feelings of being unprepared when it is time to graduate. Speaking to the college’s career development coordinator can help because a student can receive additional guidance on change of major, career goals, and more. Students can even use Career Services at JSU after they graduate.
Acosta accepts walk-in visits, but encourages students to make an appointment. Acosta can be contacted by email at cacosta@jsu.edu.
Below are the Career Services events that Acosta has planned for the Fall 2021 semester. All students are invited to participate, and if there are questions, please contact Acosta.
