JSU will be hosting its Gamecock Arts Summer Program (GASP) this summer with four different interest areas: acting, creative writing, film, and visual arts. For the first time, the camp will be a day camp, rather than residential. From June 21-25, students in the GASP camps will receive academic enrichment while also enjoying the recreational activities provided by JSU. Each camp is a great opportunity for high school students to learn from JSU faculty about their respective disciplines while gaining experience in college level activities.
Students of the Visual Arts Camp will learn about art history while learning to use different techniques and media before displaying their creations in one of the JSU campus gallery spaces.
Acting Camp students will learn “a variety of professional acting techniques, vocal and movement work, textual analysis, group games and exercises, audition techniques, and improv.”
In the Writing Camp, students will participate in the Young Adults Writing Program (YAWP), where they will learn new techniques to hone their skills across several genres while gaining constructive feedback from faculty and classmates and learning about the publication of works in journals.
Students of the Digital Cinematography Film Camp (DCFC) will gain a “no-nonsense approach to the art of film, [as students are] behind the camera, setting up creative lighting and learning techniques of boom operating from day one. Students will also learn to use digital editing software to edit filmed scenes.”
The registration deadline for GASP is May 20, 2021 at 11:59 PM CST. More information can be found on the GASP website or with Camp Director Morgan Worsham (mworsham@jsu.edu).
