The JSU Jazz Combo and Gospel Choir will be performing together this Thursday, 11 February, at the Leone Cole Auditorium in celebration of Black History Month. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be four students (Benjie Bess on piano, CJ O’Neal Jr. on drums, Ashton Cook on bass, and Omie Crockett on tenor saxophone) performing in the Jazz Combo, which is just one of ten Jazz Ensembles here at JSU.
Because of the improvisational nature of jazz, the songs that the students will play will be made up on the spot. As Dr. Andy Nevala explains it, “Playing Jazz allows for the students to find their own voice, and you will hear their personalities come out in the way they play!”
