Tristn Lambright, a recent graduate of JSU, has recently begun graduate work in history and is a Student Ambassador for the Department of History and Foreign Languages.
Hometown: Ohatchee, AL
Major/minor: Now a first-year student in the MA in history program, I graduated in December 2019 with a major in history and a minor in English.
Why did you decide to attend JSU? I received a full scholarship.
Why did you choose your major? Passion for research, writing, and storytelling. Excellent faculty in the History Department.
Favorite historical site to visit/want to visit? Protestant Cemetery in Rome, Italy (where Shelley and Keats are buried). Want to visit: The WWII museum in Louisiana.
What is the coolest thing about the History and Foreign Languages Department? Study abroad opportunities. I studied abroad in Rome, Italy, in May 2016 and May 2017. I chose to study abroad because I grew up in a very small town, and the study abroad program was my first opportunity to travel outside of the South and to immerse myself in a culture which stands at the center of western civilization and thought. Traveling to Rome with a group of intelligent professors and passionate students and placing myself at the center of the historical and cultural landscapes I have studied so intimately was an outstanding experience. During my travels, I cultivated a deeply humane and enduring passion for ancient history, philosophy, art, and rhetoric that continually inspires and guides my scholarship. I hope to return to Rome soon.
What are your post-grad plans? I’d like to pursue a PhD in Ancient History or Classics.
Advice to students new-to-JSU? Take advantage of the library. Read good books if you want to write well. Don’t skip classes. Wear your mask.
