Why did you decide to attend JSU? I decided to attend JSU because it is in my hometown. I honestly wasn’t excited at first just because I have been here my entire life. But I fell in love with the campus and the students. There is something for everyone, and it is so easy to find your place here! I am so thankful I decided to come to JSU!
Why did you choose your major and what is it like designing your own in Integrated Studies? I chose Integrated Studies after struggling to decide whether my first major was truly what I wanted. Once I changed my major, I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. I have fallen in love with Fashion Merchandising through Integrated Studies. I get to take classes that interest and will benefit me in the future. I feel like I am in control of things as an Integrated Studies major. I have the freedom and ability to do what makes me happy and excited about school!
What is your favorite thing to eat on/off campus? I LOVE Freshens! My go-to is the Super Green wrap and a Mango Me Crazy Smoothie. I recommend it to everyone! Off campus, hands down, Yamato. I love that place and eat there more than I would like to admit.
What was it like campaigning for Homecoming Queen during a pandemic? It was actually a lot of fun to solely be on social media to campaign. I think it took the pressure off of spending money to make signs and give things out to students. I will say, though, it can be hard to reach everyone on social media because you can’t see them face to face and you may not know everyone.
What are your post-grad plans? I would love to open my own small clothing business that is inclusive and sustainable. I want to make everyone feel beautiful no matter who they are, and I also want to try to help the planet. “Fast Fashion” is destroying the planet and people’s self-image. I also would love to go back to work for the Walt Disney World Company again. I’m hoping to check some traveling off my bucket list as well.
Advice to students new-to-JSU? Step out of your comfort zone and try something new. You literally never know who you could meet and end up making incredible bonds. I have met some of the most incredible people at JSU through Greek life and even just in my classes. Don’t be afraid to say hello and start a conversation. I was involved with the Drama Department and even Greek life for a little bit. Both of those experiences plus many more have shaped me into who I am today.
