To complement the new major in film, the School of Arts and Humanities is launching the JSU Film Series, which opens September 30 with Moonlight (Barry Jenkins, 2016). The screenings will be outdoors, on the south side of the Houston Cole Library. The campus and city communities are invited to these free events, and attendees should bring chairs, blankets, and snacks.
Each screening will begin at sunset, after a brief introduction by a JSU faculty member. Five screenings are scheduled for the Fall semester. The line-up includes award-winning films in a variety of genres (comedy, horror, mystery, drama) and from different countries, including the United States, India, and France.
The series will kick off with Moonlight, which won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay. The film follows an African American man struggling with several challenges, such as identity and sexuality, as he moves from childhood to adulthood.
Future films include Lady Bird, The Witch, Pather Panchali, and Beauty & the Beast. We hope you will join us for these outdoor movies.
