Courtney Sheffield is a senior from Powder Springs, GA. She is working towards a BFA in Graphic Design and was one of the artists that created the Marching Southerners’ theme release graphic earlier this semester.
What was it like designing the theme release graphic?
Helping design the show reveal for the Marching Southerners was a great experience. Everyone on the team was very passionate about the project because the band is very special and important to us all.
Why did you decide to attend JSU?
I chose JSU not knowing what I wanted to major in, but I knew I wanted to be involved in the JSU Marching Southerners Colorguard.
What are some of your hobbies outside of Art and Colorguard?
I love crafting and DIY projects as well as playing with my dog Zoey.
What is your favorite thing to eat in Jacksonville?
My favorite thing to eat is Yamato and Mad Hatters Cupcakes.
Are you involved in any clubs or organizations?
I work for JSU Housing and Residence Life as their graphic design intern; I’m involved in Sigma Alpha Omega, a Christian sorority on campus; and I am on the Marching Southerners Colorguard/Rifle Line.
How did you choose your major?
I came to JSU not knowing what I wanted to major in, but I knew I liked art, so I signed up for a drawing class. My professor talked me into switching my major to BFA and it just seemed to fit.
Which class are you most excited for this semester?
I’m really excited about the pattern design class I am taking because we will be using our patterns to design and paint a mural for the elementary school. I am also excited about my interactive II class. Learning to write code for html and css can be frustrating and rewarding at the same time.
What has been the most meaningful experience you’ve had at JSU?
The most impactful experience I have had at JSU is working for JSU Housing Operations and Residence Life. The job has benefited me so much and helped me grow confidence in myself as a designer over the two years that I have worked here.
