Savannah Meek is a BFA Art Major with a concentration in Graphic Design. She is a junior from Jacksonville, AL, and is a student ambassador for the School of Arts and Humanities.
What is your favorite thing to eat on/off campus?
On-campus, the Kale Caesar Flatbread from Freshens is always good! Off-campus, you can usually find me at Rosie’s Gourmet to Go. It is a small family-run restaurant in Golden Springs. I highly recommend their Ham and Swiss sandwich on a croissant and their sweet potato rolls!
Who is your favorite artist?
Oh, this is tough! I admire so many artists, but one that I especially enjoy right now is Brittney Lee. She is a visual development artist for Disney, and her work is always full of bright colors and magical flair. You can see her Instagram here:

Why did you decide to attend JSU?
I decided to attend JSU because I was awarded a fantastic scholarship, and the campus is so beautiful. It’s not too big, and it is easy to find your way around.
What are some of your hobbies?
Outside of design, I enjoy illustration, horseback riding, and reading adventure novels. Tarzan is one of my all-time favorites!
Why did you choose your major?
Originally, I chose an Art Major with a concentration in Graphic Design because I loved drawing and I wanted to see what other media would work well with that skill set.
Are you involved in any clubs/organizations?
Yes! I am Vice President of our campus’s AIGA Chapter. It stands for the American Institute of Graphic Arts. It s a fantastic club! Everyone helps each other with projects, and we take trips to local design conferences every semester. If you have an interest in maybe trying out art, come to our meetings! Every Thursday at 6pm in Hammond Hall.
Who is your favorite professor, and why?
That is a difficult question! I enjoy so many of the professors in the art department. Two that really stand out in my mind are Professor Dunn and Professor Anderson. They are two sides to a kick-butt graphic design team. Professor Dunn knows when to push you. He is the challenging professor who inspires you to make your work really shine when you need an extra nudge. Professor Anderson is the guy to see after having had a hard day. He can point out something cool in your work that not everyone will notice and will always make you laugh. Together, they balance each other out and make a fantastic team.
What has been your favorite course so far?
Again, that’s a tough one! One that I really enjoyed was a Special Topics in Illustration course. We got to design and hand bind our own book on anything we wanted. I made a watercolor guide to find mythical creatures. It was fun to write the guidelines for each creature and explore what they might look like in one of my favorite mediums.
Are you currently working on any creative projects?
Right now, I am working on a sticker set of different dog breeds and designing my own website. Look for updates on my Instagram: https://bit.ly/30C2ZUf
