Keiley Rowland, a senior majoring in music education, is from Cedar Bluff, AL.
Why did you decide to come to JSU?
My mother went to JSU and loved it. My high school band director did as well. They were a big influence, and I also wanted to be a Marching Southerner.
Do you have any hobbies?
I like color guard, painting, and reading.
What is your favorite thing to eat off campus?
My favorite place to eat is Coop DeVille.
Why did you choose your major?
I chose music education because my music teachers made a huge difference in my life. I want to do the same and help my future students express themselves through music.
What are your post-grad plans?
After graduation, I plan to go to graduate school and pursue a degree in music theory.
What has been your favorite JSU memory?
Performing with Southerners for the first time and hearing the crowd’s reaction was an amazing experience. I love being part of something that brings joy to so many people.
What do you love most about JSU’s music program?
The professors are the best part of the music program. They care about their students and know them by name.
Are you involved in any clubs/organizations?
I am a color guard member in the Marching Southerners. I am also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, a women’s music fraternity.
What has been your favorite course so far?
My favorite course so far has to be MU 301. It is a post-tonal music theory course taught by Dr. Gordon. He is a fantastic teacher, and the content is fascinating.
