On October 4th at the Faculty Showcase Concert in Anniston, the 2019 JSU Music Legacy Scholarship winners were announced. To assist in making the presentations this year, JSU Music Faculty were honored to have Dr. Christie Shelton, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Jacksonville State University.
Seventeen years ago, the JSU Music Faculty decided to establish the Music Legacy Scholarship award program and to fund it in part through a yearly Faculty Recital. As a way of strengthening and continuing the long tradition of musical excellence at JSU, the Faculty chose to establish the scholarship fund to recognize outstanding Music students who had a parent or close relative who had attended JSU.
Through the generosity of friends and patrons, JSU Music Faculty have been able to offer scholarship assistance each year since 2002. Funds raised are matched by President Beehler.
This year, the recipients of the Legacy Scholarship are:
Zachary Odom, a senior in percussion from Bessemer, AL
Keiley Rowland, a junior in piano from Cedar Bluff, AL
John (Sawyer) Strickland, a junior in the French horn from Morris, AL
Connor Griffith, a sophomore in voice from Talladega, AL
