Student Spotlight: Katie Grace Terry

Katie Grace Terry, a senior majoring in Music Education with a minor in Instrumental Flute, is originally from Pelham, Alabama.  At JSU, she has been involved in the Marching Southerners, the Chamber Wind Band, Sigma Alpha Omega, the SAH Student Ambassadors, and Engage.

Do you have any hobbies?

I enjoy playing music, reading, working out, and hanging out with friends.

What is the last book you read?

I Declare War by Levi Lusko

What is your favorite thing to eat on/off campus?

I like the Mexican Rice Bowl from Freshens and also Java Jolt Coffee.

Why did you choose JSU?

I decided to come to JSU because of the great scholarship opportunities and because of the Marching Southerners. I still remember how inspiring it was to watch them perform and be hit with that wall of sound for the first time. After I went on a campus tour my senior year, I knew this was the place for me. It truly felt like home.

Why did you choose your major?

I chose music education because of an inspiring music teacher I had growing up. She gave me flute lessons beginning in fifth grade all the way until I graduated. She invested in me far more than ever expected and gave me a love for music. Now I want to do the same for other students.

What are your post-graduation plans?

My main goal is to get a job!

Why do you love doing what you do at JSU?

I love doing what I do at JSU because these activities have helped shape me into who I am today. I have the most amazing friends who love me and push me to be the best version of myself I can be. I have learned many valuable lessons that I will be able to take anywhere I go.

What was the coolest part about the Music program at JSU?

The coolest part about the music program at JSU is the community. I have made some of my best friendships through the program and have never had to sit through a class feeling alone.

What about your learning experience in the Music department gives you the confidence to take on life after graduation?

The community of people that are a part of the Music program at JSU remind me that I will always have people to call on throughout my career for help or for collaborating on ideas to more effectively teach music.
